Vanni Association for Rehabilitation of the Disabled
VAROD
Kilinochchi Association for rehabilitation of the disabled(KAROD) ble etablert i 1990 og var den eneste organisasjonen som drev målrettet rehabiliteringsarbeid for funksjonshemmede i Kilinochchi i nord-øst på Sri Lanka. Som følge av krigshandlingene er KAROD reetablert og ble i mai 2009 registrert under nytt navn- VAROD (Vanna Association for rehabilitation of the disabled).
DEATH OF KAROD DRIVER - MR SANKARANAYANA4R BALAKRISHNAN (PETER). We are obliged to report this incident occurred on 9th February, 2009. Mr. Sankaranayanar Balakrishnan alias Peter, all call him, Peter in short is no more living with us. He served KAROD organization for the last 3 years. A very duty bound person, willingly served this organization discharged his duties consciously even amidst security problems and other risks during the conflict period. We remember his wife’s death occurred 5 years ago, there were no children born to the couple since their marriage, so they adopted a boy as their own and he married later. Since then, Peter was living alone and stayed at KAROD. He was driving a half size van.
KAROD- NORGE er en idéell organisasjon som ønsker å gi økonomisk og faglig støtte til KARODs arbeid på Sri Lanka. Organisasjonen skal arbeide for å skaffe til veie flest mulig betalende medlemmer, søke økonomisk støtte fra offentlige instanser og fra andre hjelpeorganisasjoner og opprette kontakt med aktuelle organisasjoner for funksjonshemmede i Norge. På sikt ønsker organisasjonen også å bistå med faglig kompetanse gjennom egne faggrupper, samt opprette en fadderordning rettet mot barn med funksjonshemming eller til barn med funksjonshemmede omsorgspersoner. Organisasjonen KAROD-NORGE ble stiftet den 19. april 2006.
KAROD (Kilinochchi Association for the Rehabilitation of the Differently Abled) KAROD, er en ikke- kommersiell, ikke statlig organisasjon med 40 ansatte, grunnlagt i -90, Nord-Øst på Sri Lanka. KAROD yter fysisk, psykososial og sosialøkonomisk bistand og rådgivning til funksjonshemmede i alle aldersgrupper. Hjelp gis også til de som har tapt sitt livsgrunnlag på grunn av borgerkrigen og Tsunamien.
Bistanden blir gitt i form av medisinsk oppfølging, tilrettelegging for arbeid, hjelpemidler, yrkestrening, veiledning til bygging av boliger, og fadderordning.
Noe av målsettingen er også å arbeide for likestillling blant funksjonshemmede ved spesielt å være oppmerksom på kvinnelige funksjonshemmede.

1. Assistance for School Education : Benefited number of members: 658 This activity is for the direct disabled as well as to their disabled family member. The beneficiaries selected by the Community Development officers and Field officers with the recommendation of the Grama Sevaka and the School Principal. Through this activity Books, Exercise books, pens, Bicycles and tuition fees are provided depends on the needs. - This promoted school; education with the community - All the children obtained food ranks in examination. - 10 of them passes the scholarship examination - 07 of them got through the G. C. E. Ordinary Level examination.
SITUATION REPORT – KILINOCHCHI DISTRICT Period – 2005 onwards
1.0 General comments: Since 2005 after the new government was formed, the hope of good governance and a solution to the most burning questions of the ethnic conflict and the peace initiatives was shattered. The conflict between the Security forces and the LTTE deteriorated and paved the closing of the A9 route to Jaffna. Since the closing of the Road, the cold war started and the country faced severe setbacks, especially the life of the Wanni people was affected much. Day to day, murders and disappearances of the innocent people ever increasing. The Human Right violations are noted shot up with the incidents increasing. As a result, the economic and social condition of the Wanni, fast degrading, where a people of silent suffer are ignored. We could cite more incidents in number but for the brevity, we include a few to mention –
