HISTORY
Killinochchi Association for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (KAROD) is a non-profitable, non-governmental organization founded in 1990. KAROD is a Disabled service provider in the district of Kilinochchi, has registered with the North East Province Social Service Department, under the Provincial Council Act – No.22 at Trincomalee.

KAROD, among other things, provides physical, psychosocial and socio-economic care and assistance to the disabled of all age groups and also those rendered disabled by the ethnic war. KAROD is unique,,in that, it was the disabled who themselves were instrumental in the formation of the organization. KAROD has been working beyond the barriers of ethnicity, religion, caste and political ideologies to ameliorate the living conditions "of several hundred" persons in Wanni who had been unfortunate victims of land mines, gun shot injuries, aerial bombing and artillery shelling.

It has strength of 37 staff including community development officers and field officers in the 4 divisions constitute Kilinochchi district with the membership of 1825 disabled persons. KAROD is managed by a Management Committee having a President, a Secretary and a Treasurer elected from among the beneficiaries at the AGM held every year.

KAROD currently operates from a makeshift temporary structure built on a ¾ acre of land of its own.
